Caños de Meca is on the Costa de la Luz in Spain. It can be reached by taking one of the small side roads off the N-340 coast road near Vejer de la Frontera or through the pine forest from Barbate which is just north of Tarifa. The town is not very big with just one road, and although there are no nightclubs here, there are beach bars with music which do not close until the last person leaves or falls asleep on the beach.During the summer months the high street is lined with market stalls selling unusual clothes, handmade jewellery and ceramics.
Caños de Meca has suffered very little modern development. The word "Caños" comes from the small falls of fresh water pouring from the cliffs which can be found at the far end of the town.Los Caños is located within the Acantilado Nature Park which faces the Atlantic coast and whose strong winds have shaped its 3,130 hectares with pine forests which practically reach the coast. Tourism began here in the 1960s when roads were constructed, and in the late 1970 the town became very popular because of its nightlife and nudism, and this is still the case today.
The Costa de la Luz is becoming increasingly popular with property investors.Because its property development has been more restricted than anywhere else in Spain and it has a reputation as a slightly bohemian, non-commercial area, it is attracting a young and trendy clientele. There are a lot of new developments on the coast, golf courses being built and investment in infrastructure. The increase in property value in recent years shows no sign of slowing down and investment in property here should provide strong returns for years to come. With direct flights from the UK and northern Europe now flying into Jerez international airport, this part of Spain is now more accessible. The huge investment in new roads and motorways means that it is now easier than ever to purchase property inland from the Costa de la Luz resulting insteady year on year price increases.
